Business meetings are held on 1st Monday of each month at the Antelope Hotel at 6pm. We have two Open meetings a year which are more of a social gathering with guest presentations or speakers.
Our Chamber currently has well over 100 members, with new businesses keen to join as the Chamber profile in town is high and seen as very pro-active.
The Chamber supports the marketing and promotion of Sherborne via media, press, Sherborne Area Partnership (grant aid given by Chamber towards this), Town Council and Tourism Forum.
Our Chamber arranges with Superplants the sponsorship of our entry in South West in Bloom competition. Our part involves arranging hanging baskets through Sherborne, floral tubs and displays.
The town has for the last two years won Silver Gilt award, and last year also won the Best Market Town in South West trophy.
Our Chamber has representation at Town Council and Planning meetings, WDDC meetings regarding parking, highways etc, and generally any subject which will affect Sherborne eg the Barton Farm Development project. We keep in contact with local police.
We have an amazing Sherborne Shopping Guide, which is a nightmare to process, but is a marvellous informative guide on the delights to be found in Sherborne. A map is also part of the Guide. This is all done by Chamber members, and of course we use our members’ special abilities in the process.
The Chamber has a representative at special occasions in Sherborne Abbey and Sherborne Castle.
The Chamber sponsors, organises and creates a Festive Shopping Day in December. This has grown over the years and is very successful. Running up towards this, the Chamber organises over 100 lighted Christmas trees through the town, and arranges a lighting-up ceremony by the big tree.
Sherborne is an attractive but not large town, however it has lots to offer. Sherborne’s Chamber of Trade & Commerce is very busy with works in progress and many ideas for its future. As we are all volunteers, it is amazing the amount of projects we get through given our limited time.
