RACE IS ON TO FIND THE VERY BEST!

THE search is on to find the cream of Dorset's businesses in the 2008 Daily Echo-backed Dorset Business Awards, the county's biggest and most prestigious business awards.

Now in their 14th year and renowned as the business "Oscars" of Dorset, the Awards give local companies the opportunity to put their businesses in the spotlight and gain recognition for their achievements.

Peter Scott, chief executive of Dorset Business says: "We are ready to receive outstanding business success stories from across Dorset. The Dorset Business Awards is the only programme of its kind in the county to assess the talent of blue chip companies alongside SMEs, regardless of size or sector.

"Since its inception the Awards have become established as a hallmark of success and enterprise as well as an important celebration of the region's skills, achievements and innovations in business."

This year there are a total of 11 award categories, five of them new for 2008, making it the biggest ever.

Also new is the Awards logo which has been designed by three students from the Arts Institute at Bournemouth; Luke Carre, Christopher Matthews and David Higgs, who are studying the foundation degree in Visual Communications.

Completing the fresh feel to the annual Awards is a new-look website, dorsetbusinessawards.co.uk, where local companies can find out more and submit their entry.

Designed and sponsored by Refreshed Media, their representative Simon Melaniphy explains: "This year the site has been given an exciting fresh design to complement the new corporate branding, plus some improvements to the submission process after listening to users' feedback."

More than 200 business leaders from the county attended the launch events for this year's Awards which began yesterday (Thursday) at Les Bouviers in Wimborne, (sponsored by Mobile Media), and moved to Minterne House & Gardens near Cerne Abbas today (sponsored by Poole Audi).

The deadline for entries is Friday September 12 and judging will take place late September-early October. Finalists will be invited to the prestigious Gala Dinner on November 18 when the winners will be announced.

For further information about the Awards or to purchase tickets for the Gala Dinner contact Shirley Ewart on 01202 714802. Tickets cost £70 plus VAT each, or £630 plus VAT for a table of 10 (10 tickets for the price of 9).
