A CHARITY has signed up to help disabled people find work in Dorset.
The Shaw Trust was given the go-ahead from Jobcentre Plus to run the New Deal for Disabled People (NDDP).
Julie McKenzie, who is in charge of the Dorset and Somerset area for the Shaw Trust, said: "We are delighted to be here.
"We believe everyone has the right to work, and we do everything in our power to make that possible."
The Shaw Trust is working with Dering Employment Services and WestCountry Training and Consultancy Service to deliver the NDDP programme, managed by Jobcentre Plus.
It will provide advice on training, job searches, benefits and tax credits for people with disabilities or a health condition.
Ms McKenzie added: "Basically Shaw Trust supports people every step of the way on their journey moving from benefits to employment.
"People want to work, employers need their skills and everyone is a winner."
The Shaw Trust was formed in 1982. It helps people with disabilities or disadvantages to find work.
It delivers government programmes and runs its own initiatives.
The NDDP is a programme of advice and practical support, which helps people move from disability and health-related benefits into paid employment.
Peter Scott, who is chief executive of Dorset Business, said: "In Dorset, employers are faced with skills shortages in many different areas. "There is a large pool of people who are overlooked, namely people disadvantaged in the labour market by disability, ill health or social circumstances, who represent a resource of untapped talent.
"This initiative provides support for as long as is required, and will open opportunities not just for those with disabilities but also for employers, who may want to give this serious consideration as an option for filling vacancies."
