A Dorset solicitor says that prenuptial agreements are gaining in importance.
While British law does not generally recognise prenuptial contracts, Emma Hamilton-Cole, who specialises in family law at the Broadstone office of Coles Miller, predicted that this could change in future.
Lord Justice Mathew Thorpe, who heard the case of Katrin Radmacher, a German paper industry heiress worth £100 million and her former husband Nicolas Granatino, overturned an earlier court ruling ordering Radmacher to pay Granatino £5.85m.
“It seems likely that in time properly prepared and executed prenuptial agreements seem likely to gain in relevance and weight in law,” said Emma.
