A PURBECK firm is flying in the face of the recession as it posts sales up more than 60 per cent on this time last year.
Suttles stone merchants has reported an outstanding couple of months of sales of its one-tonne “dumpy” bags compared to the same period last year.
The company sold 600 tonnes of stone and building materials compared to 380 in 2008.
Director Chris Suttle said: “Our bagged sales have continually increased since last year. We’ve seen both our direct sales and online sales increase.
“We have found that due to the impact of the recession, people have not been moving house and are instead investing in their homes, such as adding decorative stone chippings to their driveways and gardens.
“Our customers find our range of stone chippings, sand and building aggregates ideal for relaying drives, adding features to their gardens and updating pathways.
“Our experience in the highly competitive construction market enables us to offer worthwhile advice and value for money products, providing our customers with major benefits, especially in this difficult economic climate.”
He added that it was not just consumer sales that were on the up.
Chris said: “There has been a lot of talk in the media about the construction industry being hit particularly hard, however even with the economic downturn we still receive lots of orders.
“Demand from the construction industry in our products is still very strong.”
