THE removal industry is changing.
Once upon a time, if you wanted to move, a removal company would do the job while the cost-conscious would do it themselves.
But now Steve Mason from Poole has designed and patented a new system that simplifies the process still further.
Move-Smooth drops off a container “for people to fill at their leisure for as long as they want”.
“Then we will collect it and deliver it to their new address”, explained business partner Paul Lovesy.
“We are doing about 20 moves a month at the moment – one a day in the local area.”
He added that they also operate a franchise in Southampton.
“We tend not to do longer-distance moves because there are other products available that are better suited to them. We’re aiming for a market within 100 miles or so and we cater for every sector.”
He added that the business has relocated people from London and “has been doing a lot of relocation work for the head office team at New Look in Weymouth, which is moving to Watford”. Mr Lovesy, who was in the recruitment industry for 10 years, feels that “this will change the marketplace”.
He bought the business “off the shelf” as a franchise after visiting the National Franchise Exhibition at the NEC last October.
It can grow by attracting more franchisees as well as day-to-day customers.
Move-Smooth, which operates from Romany Business Park, Poole, has eight containers, three trailers and two vehicles and employs up to 10 staff on busy days.
