John Lewis Poole

John Lewis, which operates an At Home store in Poole, is opening a second of its new concept shops in Croydon.

This follows the success of its trial in Poole.

The retailer has committed to investing a further £7.5 million in its At home format, which focuses on the home sector, including electrical and home technology.

John Lewis head of format development, Tim Harrison, said: “Our shop in Poole has performed above expectations since day one, and has given us the confidence to open in another area, extend our reach and attract new customers. The shop has proven that a smaller format works and has been very well received by customers for its convenience and ease. We’re delighted to be able to bring another John Lewis at home shop to fruition this autumn.”

Poole branch manager, James Prince, added: “During three months of trading, electricals, furniture and furnishing fabrics including cushions, curtains and upholstery have sold particularly well. Due to customer demand, we extended our shopping hours in the run up to Christmas and we’re thrilled to announce we met our end of year trading target with three weeks to spare. We’re also looking forward to receiving our new season stock over the next few weeks including garden furniture.”

John Lewis at home in Croydon will create 220 new jobs, adding to the 150 jobs created by the Poole At Home branch.
