David Cross, farmland director at Savills in Salisbury, says that of the 12 farms he sold last year, many were in Dorset and 61 per cent were purchased by farmers – up from 53 per cent in 2008 – countering the myth that farming is dead.
Mr Cross, who sells land in Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire says that “lifestyle buyers” represented 21 per cent of purchasers.
