New High Street bank looks to 200 branches

METRO Bank plc has opened its first branch in London – the first new High Street bank in the UK for 100 years – and it plans to open a further 200 over the next five years.

Branches will be open seven days a week until 8pm, Monday to Friday, and there will even be customer toilets.

Metro Bank, co-founded by Vernon Hill and Anthony Thomson, is based on the Commerce Bank model established by Vernon Hill in the US in 1973.

A British management team has worked with him to help bring this model to the UK.
