Snow good if you throw cash about!

Snow good if you throw cash about Last Friday I was one of the speakers at the Chamber of Commerce seminar Swim, Don’t Sink!

It never fails to amaze me how much useful information delegates can get from these sessions. I certainly picked up some useful tips from my fellow presenters. It was good to see that Dorset business people were not deterred by the snow that day. Well done to everyone.

While we are on the subject of snow, is it just me that is fed up of hearing comparisons about how Russia, Canada etc, can cope with heavy snowfalls? Surely these reports are missing the point. It is easy to plan and budget for weather conditions that happen every year. Would you want to be the government minister explaining why you had financed 200 snowploughs that were only used once every 20 years!!

Another hot topic in the media at the moment is bonus payments for bankers. I am not going to get involved in a political argument, or name particular banks, but, this again, seems fairly straightforward. If you are running a business that gets into so much trouble it needs to be bailed out by the taxpayer, you have avoided administration and are partly owned by the taxpayer. It is hardly surprising that taxpayers should object to bonus payments being made with their cash while they and their families are having to live with the current economic conditions. Conditions that, of course, were created by irresponsible lending by the same banks.

If you have not already booked, do not forget the President’s Lunch at the Royal Bath Hotel, Thursday, February 26.
